Music of the Moment January 2016

It has been a hot minute since I've done a Music of the Moment playlist! I think it's time to change that. I've been loving some amazing songs recently. Some are Top 40 and others are more alternative, but they're all solid 100s.

I've recently been really into Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist and quite a few of the songs on the playlist came from that. If you haven't ever given your Discover Weekly playlist a listen, I HIGHLY recommend it!

And so here's what songs I've been loving!

Literally I have everyone from Sam Hunt to Jason Derulo, Justin Bieber and obscure alt bands like ADHDS and Transviolet. My music taste is all over the boards. Haha!

Check out my Music of the Moment playlists No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3

What songs/bands have you been loving lately? Anything I need to listen to? Drop me a comment below sharing!

90's Nirvana: A Burgundy, Grunge Makeup Tutorial

Hi everyone! Today I'm super excited to be launching a new bi-weekly series here on of life and style with my gorgeous and talented makeup loving friend Sarah! You might remember her from her last makeup tutorial and KC Fashion Week last spring? She's going to be doing videos and posts sharing her thoughts on all things beauty. I'm super excited to be launching this series and hope you guys enjoy it! I know she's also excited and has worked really hard on this video. If you liked it and want to see more beauty content or have any video requests leave a comment down below or give Sarah some love on Instagram

Okay enough of me and let's get on to the video!

Hey guys, I'm back! Hopefully you remember me from a few weeks ago when I shared a holiday makeup tutorial with ya'll! If not, then it's nice to meet you! My name is Sarah Presley, I'm a friend of Sam's, lover of makeup (obvi), KC native, yada yada yada...

Today I am sharing a tutorial for this dark, burgundy, and a little bit grungy makeup look. For me, this makeup was all about experimenting with products I normally wouldn't wear and seeing what direction this makeup went. I wouldn't normally reach for a lipstick this shade, but it was fun going out of my comfort zone and I ended up loving how it looked! I know this look may not be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed filming it and I hope you enjoy it the same!

My last tutorial was a hit, and Sam and I had so much fun collaborating on it, so we've decided to make this a regular thing! Every other Thursday, starting today, look forward to a new post by me featuring all things makeup and beauty. I love creating these makeup looks so much and cannot wait to keep sharing them!

If you liked this tutorial, I would appreciate the love on Instagram here!

If you have any requests or things you'd like to see in my next post, leave them in the comments below!
Mark your calendar for my next post on February 4th!

Denim and Stripes

If you've been following me for any length of time you know that I love stripes, that can be seen here, here, here and here and extensively on my Instagram. Stripes are classic! You can't go wrong with them. Even though I have like 1048101 striped tops I can never pass one up. Case in point this one from Target... It's light, super soft and is a trapeze top which means flowy, perfect for when I'm out eating Mexican! Haha!

Sunglasses: TJ Maxx (similar here)// Top: Target// Jeans: American Eagle// Bag: Coach// Sandals: Target// Bracelet: Kendra Scott//

Thanks to Alex for the photos

The top is shortsleeve but I threw on my denim jacket because in this day in particular it was a bit chilly, but recently it's been in the high 60s and low 70s, perfect t-shirt weather.

I love this top because it's striped (obvi) but also that it's long, almost tunic-y, which I love, especially with leggings. I can already tell this top will be a staple in my wardrobe!

Do you love stripes? How do you wear them? Leave me a comment sharing! :)

Real vs Steal

As much as I love fashion and wearing designer items I just can't afford them. Especially when their price tag is in the thousands. I wish I did, maybe one day! In the mean time I'll stick to wearing look alikes. I have absolutely no problem with look alikes, especially when they look almost identical to the real thing and I can get it for a heck of a lot less. So today I'm sharing another installment of my real vs steal series!

Studded booties

Cap toe flats

Lace-up flats

Blush satchel

You can get all three pairs of shoes and the bag for less than the Chanel flats. If that's not winning then I don't know what is! I have the cap toe flats that are from Target and they're adorable. They're comfy and just classic. And the blush satchel is Forever21 would be perfect for Valentine's Day coming up. Forever 21's handbag game has been killing it lately with designer dupes. Keep it up guys! The studded boots are Choies and could pass off as the Chloe ones. And the lace up flats are also from Forever21 and in stock with all sizes. I know many stores have sold out of the flats or stopped carrying them. I have a pair and can't wait till they get here (my dad is shipping them to me) so I can start wearing them!

Many of the items from my last Real vs Steal are still in stock, on sale and in most sizes! Click here to check them out and snatch them up while you can!

Found any dupes for designer faves? Know any good places to get them? Leave a comment below sharing! :)

Happy Shopping!

Blogger Bloopers

While most people think bloggers are perfect humans who always have their life together and never take a bad picture that couldn't be further from the truth. My life is almost always not together and I take so many bad photos before I get a good one. (Bless my very patient brother who takes my photos!) So today I thought I'd share some gems that didn't quite make the cut into the posts. I hope it makes you laugh or puts a smile on your face! :)

Wait WHAT NOW?!?!?!

Ugh I can't even

One sec I gotta smoosh my lipstick!

No words for this one......

And FREEZE

No outfit post

Uhm like DUH

Wait no this way!

No outfit post

So there you have it.... the less than glamouros and very embarrassing side of fashion blogging. I'd say like the majority of the photos I take usually end up something like this and only a small minority end up being usable and me not embarrassing myself and looking like a normal person. Haha!

I hope you guys enjoyed these gems and if you want to see more bloopers you can click here

Black and White

I posted a snippet of this outfit on my Instagram (@samantha_goble) a week ago and decided to do a proper post on it! If you didn't know I'm currently in California visiting my mom and brother. The weather here has been amazing, 60s and 70s and sunny. I'm sorry to everyone back in the Midwest and East dealing with cold, ice and snow.... you guys are more than welcome to come visit! So dressing for "winter" has been a bit of a challenge, that and I only packed like 8 shirts (I extended my stay and didn't plan on it) so I've had to be creative with styling.

Button up: Old Navy// Puffer vest: Francesca's// Belt: Target (similar here)// Jeans: American Eagle// Flats: Target// Bracelet: Kendra Scott//

Thanks to Alex for the photos

Inspired by the #StyleC4Challenge on Instagram via the lovely Caitlin of Sophistcaited I styled my white button up with my black puffer vest, ripped denim and my new tan and black capped toe flats from Target!

These flats are dupes for the Chanel flats that ring in at a whopping $750, waaaaaay out of my budget. But when I saw these at Target for $20 which was waaaaay in my budget I couldn't resist. They are just as cute and super comfy. They're pretty and polished and add a girly, feminine touch to any outfit!

My puffer vest is back in stock on Francesca's and if you've been looking for one but don't want to pay the J.Crew price (girl I feel you) this is one is for you. It's under $50 and basically identical to the J.Crew one. As you can tell I'm really into finding pieces that look like other pieces but for a lot less. Haha! #Budgetista #NoShame

How do you wear a white button up in winter? Do you buy dupes or look alikes? Leave a comment sharing!

Favorite Beauty Products of 2015

I love beauty and makeup products as much as the next blogger/girl. I love buying, testing and finding new favorites to add to my routine. Last year I found that I love lipstick and blush and now I don't leave the house without it! This year I've been really into contouring. So today I'm sharing my favorite beauty products from the year and doing a little mini review of each! Let's get to it!

Makeup//

NARS lip pencil: I got this from Sephora from their VIB birthday gift and it was my first time trying NARS out, which I had been lusting to do for forever. This is one of my absolute favorite lip colors/products. It's the perfect matte without drying out your lips and is the red color. It's a 10 out of 10.

Hoola bronzer: This is another product that I had been dying to try and when I did I realized how had I been living without it! This is the perfect matte bronzer for an all over bronzey glow and for contouring. I have trouble finding bronzers that don't make me look orange or that are too light and this one is the holy grail. When I run out of this trial size you can bet I'm gonna buy the full size!

Maybelline under eye concealer: I don't have too terrible of under eye bags/circles but when I want to brighten it up and hide the slight dark circles this baby is my go to. It brightens and hides the color without being too cakey or heavy. And it blends like a dream.

L'Oreal lipstick: I had been searching for the perfect red lipstick for the holidays and this is it. It's matte but doesn't dry out your lips, is a bold, bright red and lasts all day. I've worn this out to dinner and it last through drinks and food and still looked as vibrant as when I put it on. I also have a tutorial on how to get the perfect red lip using this color! So run to your nearest drugstore for this gorgeous red!

NYX lip cream: This lip product is not a newbie to the blog. This is my everyday, holy grail nude pink lip color. I wear this under my Essence lipstick and it makes the perfect everyday nude color. It doesn't wash me out but doesn't look too nude or too pink, it's the legit the perfect shade!

Real Techniques sponge: I have a Beauty Blender and loved using it. I heard bloggers/Youtubers rave about the RL one so I decided to give it a try and guys, IT'S SO MUCH BETTER. I use the flat side to blend my under eye concealer and it does it seamlessly. I use the rounded side for blemish concealer or to blend my foundation. If you're looking to get a beauty sponge get this one. Plus it's like a fraction of the cost. #winning

Maybelline Pore Eraser: I adore this product. While I don't wear it everyday, usually only for big events when I want a little extra coverage and help covering up my pores. It's a gel/silicone-y texture that goes on matte and leaves my skin 'primed' for when I apply my foundation. Seriously when I wear this I'm virtually poreless!

Butter London palette: This has been my go-to palette since September. The colors are super pigmented, smooth and just gorgeous. I wear them everyday for a natural look and for a more amped up nighttime look. And it's perfect for travel since it's pretty compact and has all the shadows you'd need. I do wish it had a black shadow but other than that it's my fave!

Maybelline cream shadow: Beauty Youtubers raved about this color so obviously I had to get it and try it myself and it's been a staple ever since. It's a stunning golden/rosey gold bronze shade that's perfect for a nighttime look. I will either wear it alone and add liner and mascara or use it as a base for my Butter London shadows. It's suuuper pigmented, smooth, blends like a dream and lasts all day without flaking or too much creasing. Seriously you need this shadow.

Essence eyeliner: I've tried a lot of liquid eyeliners and didn't really like any of them, until I found this baby at Ulta. It's only $2.99, a STEAL and is the best eyeliner. It's a pen liner which can be kinda tricky but this one is ridiculously easy to use. There's no need to press hard or it to get all clogged and then flood out at the tip and ruin your perfectly good line. It gives straight, perfect lines every time. If you're in the market for a new liner I HIGHLY recommend this one. And for the price you can't beat it!

L'Oreal mascara: I have the shortest, wimpiest lashes ever. So much so I've been asked if I even have eyelashes.... and whenever I see bloggers or girls with long lashes I'm super envious. So when Emily of the Sweetest Thing and Caitlin of Southern Curls and Pearls talked about this lash primer (they have gorgeous lashes) I went out and bought it. This primer has changed my lash life. It lengths and makes them fuller before I apply my mascara (Benefit They're Real and Maybelline Falsies) and gives me a pretty strong lash game. If you're like me and wanna up it this primer is it!

So that's all my holy grail, favorite makeup products! I do have a couple of posts where I share my then current makeup favorites, my current makeup favorites and my makeup storage. Now it's on to skin and hair care!

Hair//

Aveeno cleanser and moisturizer: I've been using this cleanser and moisturizer for awhile now and love it! It's gentle enough to use everyday but still leaves my skin feeling clean and doesn't dry it out. I do feel like my skin has improved since I've been using it.

Unite dry shampoo: This is my all time favorite dry shampoo that I've ever used. Most dry shampoos are white and if I don't work it into my hair well enough it looks like I have white patches, not cute. This one is clear and a really fine mist so even if I don't get it worked in all the way it won't show. It absorbs really well and doesn't leave that weird residue either. If you're looking for one I definitely recommend checking it out. It is a little pricey but so worth it.

Unite texturing spray: I love giving my hair texture and this spray does the trick. Especially now that it's short I will spray this in it to give it that kinda piecey look. When I had long hair I would use it to give it texture and volume and boy oh boy did I get volume. If you want Dolly Parton-esque hair this spray is for you.

Unite conditioning spray: As you can tell I really like Unite haircare! It's a great brand that has amazing products. They're my favorite "higher end" haircare line. Anyways, this spray is the bomb dot com. I use it after I've towel dried my hair after showering and it leaves it smooth, silky and detangled. I do think my hair is healthier, smoother, more hydrated and healthier since I've been using it!

Hot Tools curling iron: When I had my long hair *sniffle* I used this baby to give me those big, beautiful, everyday curls. I would wrap hair around the barrel, clip included and it gave me the most gorgeous curls. I have a post sharing how to get my everyday curls which you can read about here

Whew that was a lengthy one. Snaps for you if you made it all the way through. I wanted to share my thoughts on each so if you wanted to try them you'd be informed. If you have a specific question about a certain product feel free to reach out, I'd be more than happy to answer! :)

What were your beauty favorites of 2015? Anything that I need to try/check out in 2016? I'd love to hear, so leave a comment sharing down below!

Best of 2015

Well it's 2016! Seriously I need someone to sit down and explain to me where the heck 2015 went?! I remember writing my Best of 2014 post and here we are, one year later... the years are going by too fast! Like this May will be 3 years since I graduated high school..... like wait hold up, what? I swear I was like 10 last week... anyone else feel like you blink and bam a year is over?

Anyways, today I'm sharing the Best of 2015! 2015 was an incredible year on all fronts. It was one of the best and I had some amazing opportunities and memories. It was definitely a year of new and learning experiences! So today I'm sharing them with you!

No. 1: Moving//

So if you don't know/have seen my family recently moved out to California from Kansas. It was a huge change but so far it's been a great one! We've all adjusted really well and it's been amazing. Can't beat 60 degree weather in January! I'm currently visiting my mom and brother and have been loving it. Follow along to see what I've been up to on Snapchat (@samanthagoble) and Insta (@samantha_goble).

No. 2: Adulting//

After they moved out to California I was living on my own for about 2 1/2 months, a whole new experience for me. It was a learning one but I really enjoyed it! I loved being on my own and doing my own thing. Something I found out that I really enjoy is cooking/baking. While I only dabble in both I love the whole process and find it very rewarding. I especially love cooking for friends and family so you can bet if you come over for dinner you're gonna get a good meal ;)

No. 3: Turning 21//

This year I turned the big 2-1 and so far it's been great! I've ordered drinks out and at concerts, bought alcohol from a liquor store and found out what drinks I like and dislike. I love moscato, pina coladas, screwdrivers, vodka cranberries, Red's Apple Ale and Mike's hard lemonade. I don't like tequila, red and white wine and beer. I'm hoping more wine/beer will grow on me but for now I'll take the wimpy wines. If you have any good suggestions I'd love to hear them! I love trying/finding new favorites!

No. 4: KES//

This summer I had an internship with Kathryn of Kathryn Elise Studio, it was my first real adult job and it was such an amazing learning experience. I learned so much from her and had the best time. She's such an incredibly talented entrepreneur who has a passion for what she does. I absolutely loved my time working with her and took away some great things from her.

No. 5: Blogging//

I started blogging almost 2 years in March and so far it's been one of the best experiences of my life. I have gotten to do some of the most amazing things like attend Kansas City Fashion Week, Go Blog Social and be a part of the incredible KC blogging community. I had learned so much in my short time blogging and still have a lot to learn. It's been such a whirlwind adventure and I have loved every single second of it. I have big plans for the blog for 2016 and can't wait to dive right in! Thank you to everyone who has followed along and supported me on this journey! :)

No. 6: Blogging Friends//

Going hand in hand with blogging is all of the amazing ladies that I've met through it! I love going to events and getting to catch up and just having a good time with them. These ladies are talented, fabulous and just great people! I couldn't imagine being a part of the blogging community without them!

No. 7: Traveling//

Every year I travel more and more and this year was no different! I've gone to California 3 times and traveled to Nashville for the first time. All were so much fun and I had such a great time in each. 2016 I hope to travel even more and go to some new places (East Coast I'm coming for you!).

No. 8: Concerts//

2015 was the year of concerts with the total being six! Like traveling I go to more and more with every year. I've seen Walk the Moon, the Mowgli's (twice), Smallpools/Max Frost, Bastille/The Wombats/The Greeting Committee and One Direction! All the artists I saw were incredible live and gave such amazing shows. Definitely if you have the chance to see them, take it!

No. 9: Jack aka Nugget//

This year I became a fur mom to this little nugget, Jack. I found him in a neighborhood that I nanny for and he came right up to me and started rubbing against me. After driving for hours trying to find his home/owner and failing I decided to adopt him. He's the orneriest, snuggliest, cutest little nugget and I wouldn't trade being a fur mom for anything!

No. 10: Friends//

While I don't have a super big friend group it's made up of some of the best people. I spent the year with these girls, some old time friends and some new and had the best time with them! From tailgating, concerts, girl's nights, shopping thank you guys for being there for me! I can't wait to make more memories in the new year!

So that's the best of 2015! 2015 was an incredible year full of great memories and experiences. I'm not sure how 2016 can top it but I'm sure it will!

What was the highlights of your year? Leave me a comment sharing!

Gridwork

This top has easily been one of my most worn within the past several months. At one point I wore it like 4 days out of the week because of how easy it is to throw on! I'd pair it on with leggings, riding boots and a puffer vest for an instant put together outfit for running errands. Unfortunately, it's all sold out online :( But I did find a super similar one that is in stock, so snatch it up while you can!

Earrings: Claire's// Top: Old Navy (similar here)// Jeans: American Eagle// Belt: Target (similar here)// Bag: TJ Maxx (identical here)// Booties: Charlotte Russe (similar here)// Kendra Scott bracelet// Spike bracelet: Oasap// Pearl bracelet: Forever21//

Thanks to my dad for the photos

It's an oversized shirt so it's loose, perfect for hiding the food baby from chips and queso, but occasionally I will like to wear it a little more fitted. To make it fitted I tuck it into my jeans and pull it out so it's not too tight and wam bam, fitted shirt. I've worn this outfit quite a bit since it's effortless yet still put together. Pair it with ripped denim and my favorite black booties and my everyday arm candy and instant outfit!

I'm also loving the grid-ed pattern of this top, which has been very popular this season. It's simple but not too overwhelming. And since it's cream and black it goes with everything. It's a winning combo in my book.

How do you wear the grid pattern? Love it, loathe it? Leave me a comment sharing! :)
