Go Blog Social Workshop 2015

Hello lovelies! Today I'm recapping a super fun event that I had the privilege to attend on Sunday! I attended the Go Blog Social (GBS) Workshop here in downtown Kansas City. It was an all day workshop for bloggers/small business owners to learn more about branding, styling, photography and social media. It was my first time ever attending a blogging workshop. It was the perfect first event to go to! I learned so much and met so many amazing ladies! So let's get into what I did!

8:30 AM// Registration + Breakfast

I arrived at 8:30 to check in, grab some breakfast and mingle. The workshop was held at the beautiful River Market Event Place in downtown Kansas City, MO. It was such a gorgeous space!  There were about 10 other ladies already there when I arrived. We all check in and started in on breakfast. Panera catered the treats which were bagels and cream cheese and a delicious danish. In line for food I met Ellie of The Not Quite Adult. I connected with her through the Social Media With Style online workshop and now I finally met her in real life! She was super sweet and it was nice to know a friendly face. We sat together, chatting and eating our breakfast while the other ladies arrived. While at our seats we started talking to Jenna of J.Lynn Designer and Monica of 45 Fairmount. We all were chatting about our blogs, what we did, where we were from, etc., etc. They are amazing ladies so definitely go check them out!

9:45AM// Kickoff + Announcements

9:45 was the kickoff of the workshop! Since we were all networking/blogging women we did a fun icebreaker where we had to go meet 3 new people. I met about 7 women and we all shared what we did, where we were from, etc., etc. This workshop was pretty much all about connecting and meeting new people! From our ice breaker I met Jacque and Courtney, Morgan, Mollie, Valerie, Erin and Leah! It was nice to meet some other Midwest bloggers and share a little bit about our blog and what we do. They were all super nice and I'm glad I had met them!

10AM// Kickoff Speaker: Tobe Reed of Because It's Awesome

Our first keynote speaker was Tobe Reed of Because It's Awesome. She's an interior decorator blogger (although not so much now since she's a mom), graphic designer for Hallmark Cards, a social media consultor among so much more. She talked about branding, using your blog for career opportunities and getting yourself out there. She was very insightful and gave a great kickoff message. It got me inspired and ready to tackle the day!

11:15am// Breakout Session No. 1

For breakout session no. 1 there were two different sessions we could choose: a styling or photography one. I chose the styling one with Sam and Emily of Styleesque, a fabulous styling duo. In their session they talked about how to style a shoot, wether fashion or objects and the tips and tricks for it. They also talked about how to approach a brand to work with and what are some helpful items to have when styling. I sat next to Ivy of Wake Up For Makeup who's a beauty Youtuber/blogger. She's super sweet in person as she is in her videos so go give her a watch! I also met Kaleigh of Lemon Holiday and Alexandra, who's an industrial designer.

Photo via my Instagram

After their presentation we had the opportunity to play around and style on our own using fun props. Here's how I styled this fun print. Obviously I had to use all pink things because #PinkIsMySignatureColor *insert hair flipping girl emoji here*

12:30PM// Lunch with Pickleman's

After the first breakout session it was time for lunch! Lunch was catered by Pickleman's, a soup, sandwhich and salad restaurant. It was pretty good and hit the spot. I had worked up quite an appetite! While in line I met Whitney of Confetti Events and Dawn of Joyful Scribblings. Both were super nice and I ended up sitting and talking with Dawn for quite a while. Come to find out she lives about 15 minutes away from me. Small world, eh!

1:45PM// Breakout Session No. 2

For breakout session no. 2 we had one about Instagram or one about Youtube. I chose the Insta one since I don't dabble with Youtube. The speaker was Emily Reinhardt of The Object Enthusiast. Emily is a ceramics artist and uses her Instagram to showcase her art and her daily life. She talked about creating a pretty Instagram and how to have quality images, thoughtful and authentic content/captions. Her session was super helpful and I took a bunch of great notes!

3PM// Breakout Session No. 3

Our last breakout session speakers were about blog design/HTML and branding. I chose the branding one with Jenny Singh from Touch of Ambition. I absolutely loved Jenny's presentation! She was super passionate and bubbly and gave awesome notes. Her session was about using your blog to storytell and how we are are all storytellers in our own way. She also used the term 'multi-passionate entrepreneur' which I absolutely love.

4PM// Closing Keynote Speaker: Ampersand Design Studio

During our last speakers I sat next to Emmie of Blue 11 Interiors. She was super sweet and I loved meeting her! Our last speakers were the hilarious best friend duo, Morgan and Carrie of Ampersand Design Studio. These two were cracking us up! If they weren't successful #GirlBosses they could go do stand-up comedy or have their own reality show. They talked about their journey to where they are today and how to collab with brands/companies. Their story is as inspiring as it is entertaining. Their presentation was a great way to wrap up the day and hit on all the points the other's did earlier.

The group of amazing ladies at the workshop! Can you spot me? (Hint I'm towards the back right)

Photo via my Instagram

All of the attendee's got AH-mazing 'swag bags' filled with the best goodies ever! This was my first ever swag bag and it couldn't have been a better one! HUUUGE thanks to all of the sponsors for supplying us with such fun goodies!

I also met Kathryn, one of the co-founders of GBS. I connected with her via the Social Media With Style online workshop and was estatic when I found out that she lived in KC and hosted this event. We met in real life finally and I can say she's fabulous. She's as sweet as she was online and I'm glad I had the chance to meet and chat with her! I also got to meet Katelyn, a member of the GBS Team and one of the founders of Midwest Bloggers

I had such a great experience at the GBS Workshop! It was the perfect first blog workshop to go to. The GBS Team did such an amazing job with everything! I loved connecting and meeting such incredibly talented and inspiring ladies! I think the best part was being around women who were just as driven as you were and you all were inspiring one another.

If you're a blogger or small business lady, whether new or seasoned, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Go Blog Social. They have a two day conference here in Kansas City this April! Early bird tickets are on sale now! Go get yours now! I will be attending the conference, I hope to see you there! :)

If you have any questions about the GBS Workshop or workshop questions in general I'd be more than happy to answer them!

If you've been to a workshop before share your experience by leaving me a comment down below or striking up a convo with via social media, @samantha_goble!

Travel Thursdays: What I Wore: California Edition

Today I'm sharing with you all what I wore while I was in California for some vacay time! It was absolutely beautiful there and I'm so glad I got to break out the dresses and sandals and get some much needed sun on my poor pale skin! For half of our time we were doing 'business' things that required me to be comfortable and able to move around, so I wore casual clothes like leggings, t-shirts, shorts, etc. Nothing too special or worth mentioning. When we were shopping or enjoying our free time I dressed up a bit. I have a few 'professional' outfit photos and I have some mirror ones. This was my first time having outfit of the day photos taken of me in public places and it was an experience for sure! I definitely got a few weird looks from people passing by. I just kept on doin my thang ;)  Enough of me and let's get into the outfits!

Outfit No. 1// The Beach

Striped tee: Old Navy// Sunglasses: Old Navy (similar here and here)//

Outfit No. 2// Dinner

Top:  Old Navy// Jeans: American Eagle// Belt: Target (similar here)// Wedges: Ross (similar here)

Outfit No. 3// Dinner

Chambray button up: Old Navy (similar here and here)// Jeans: American Eagle// Belt: Target (similar here)// Sandals: Target// Wallet: Kate Spade (same wallet, just different colors// Necklace: Old Navy (in-store)//

Outfit No. 4// Shopping

Dress: Brandy Melville (similar here and here)// Chambray button up: Old Navy (similar here)// Sandals: Target (similar here)

Outfit No. 5// Shopping/ Sightseeing

Shirt dress: Old Navy (similar here and here)// Sunglasses: Old Navy (similar here and here)// Belt: Target//

With the exception of the mango top in Outfit 2 and the striped top in Outfit 1, everything else I already owned. It was hard dressing for 75 degrees when it was 7 degrees back home! I tried to have a mix of warm weather pieces like shorts, dresses, sandals and cooler weather pieces like buttons ups and jeans. I also tried to pack pieces that I could mix and match and dress up or down if need be. It was a challenge to just pack a week's worth of outfits in my carry on but somehow I did it! I should get a trophy or something.

What do you wear when you vacation? Leave me a comment letting me know! :)

Winter Neutrals

I'm back with an outfit post! I'm really bad about taking outfit photos when it's cold. So sorry for the lack of them :/ BUUUT, when it snowed I did manage to take some for you guys! There's just something about snow in photos that makes it all magical and wonderful. Once the weather starts warming up there will be LOTS of fashion photos. I cannot wait to break out my sandals, shorts and dresses! I've already started planning outfits! Anyways, here's a look I wore the other day to go out!

Coat: Old Navy (similar here)// Sweater dress: Old Navy// Necklace: BaubleBar// Hat: Target// Leggings: Bed Bath and Beyond (similar here)// Boots: Target old (similar here)// Bag: Nine West (similar here and here)// Sunglasses: Old Navy (similar here)//

I kinda forgot about this sweater until I went through my closet recently. I love the taupey and black combo. I also love the all neutral colors and how they popped against the snow. I also just realized that the last time I wore this hat I wore a striped top. I guess I love wearing stripes with this hat! This necklace might be one of my favorites. I've been obsessed with tassels recently and so I HAD to have this beauty in my jewelry collection. It just adds something to the outfit, dontcha think?

What do you think of my outfit? Love it, loathe it? What do you wear in the winter? Leave me a comment or snap and send me a pic, @samantha_goble!

Who Wore What Oscar's Edition

Hollywood's biggest night of glitz and glam was on Sunday night as the flawless ladies and gents of the silver screen walked the Red Carpet in haute couture custom gowns and dashing tuxes. This night of magic only comes once a year as we fashion/style/movie gurus tune in to see who will win Best Picture and who will be Best Dressed. This wonderful night can only be. . . the Oscars.

Unfortunately, I missed the Red Carpet (insert profusely crying emoji here) but I did manage to watch the actual awards part. And via Twitter I saw who wore what and wowed and who wore what and flopped. So without further adieu let's get into the best (and worst) dressed of the Oscar's 2015!

Emma Stone has it going on. She wowed at the GG with her pantsuit and she wows again with this Ellie Saab number. The chartreuse and her red locks make for a stunning look! She looks like the little golden Oscar statue!

Rosamund Pike redeemed herself from the GG with this sexy red lace, thigh high slit form fitting Givenchy gown. Seriously such a stunner.

I loved Anna Farris's silver, sparkly Zuhair Murad gown. It's a touch of whimsical but still looking gorgeous.

Kelly Ripa is a dark horse with this black ballgown! While she's not a super A-List celeb she did manage to turn heads and landed herself a spot on the Best Dressed list.

Lupita Nyong'o can wear a brown paper sack and make it look like haute couture. For real. She made heads roll in this custom Calvin Klein gown. It has 6,0000 pearls on it!

Some aren't fans of Jamie Chung's Yanina gown but I most certainly am. I love the nude + black and the 'firework' designs. Gorgeous!

Katie Cassidy's Julien MacDonald dress made my jaw drop. I mean look at it!!! Between the plunging neckline, the gorgeous silver color and the ridiculous detail what's not to love?!

Whatever J.Lo is taking to make her look like she's still 20 I wanna get my hands on some. She and Jennifer Aniston never ages! If I could do prom again I would probably wear something like this.  I adoooore the nude color, the tulle bottom, the sheer top, plunging neckline and the sparkle factor. She scores a 10, 10, 10 in this Ellie Saab number.

I cannot believe that Zoe Saldana had twins TWO months ago and looks like this. Seriously I need to be on whatever these ladies are taking so I can look like them. Zoe stunned in this blush pink, form fitting Alterier Versace gown. She's so Versace.

Cate Blanchett wears a LBD John Galliano gown but it's nothing short of simple! I love the pop of turquoise. It really complete the whole look. Elegant and sophisticated.

Reese Witherspoon is my ultimate girlcrush. Like she can do no wrong in fashion. I'm obsessed with her Tom Ford gown. I love the simplicity, the black and white combo, the off the shoulder style. She's a babe.

While I'm not a huge fan of Rita Ora she killed it on the RC. I love the Marchesa navy mermaid style with the gold detail. I also loooved her black and white, hi-low dress during her performance. She killed with both outfits!

Forget the red room bring on the red dress! Dakota Johnson wears a seductive, one shoulder St. Laurent gown. I love the style and the thigh high slit up the side.

While some didn't care for Chloe Moretz's Miu Miu dress I loved it. It could be a little bit more form fitting but other than that it's a stunner. Oh and it has pockets. #winning

Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter are my favorite couple of the night. He wore a white tux which looked dashing and she stepped out in a daring, risque red, off the shoulder number. Can we say power couple? Oh and she's pregnant too! I hope I can look that good while pregnant!

Eddie Redmayne wears a navy and black Alexander McQueen tux to the Red Carpet and smashes it! While I'm not so keen on mixing navy and black he aced it, looking gorgeously attractive. Anddd I'm soo happy he won Best Actor! If you haven't seen The Theory of Everything you need to. One of the best movies of the year.

Uncle Jesse's still got it. He's one of those guys that just keeps getting better with age. John Stamos wore a classic black tux but added the bright red pocket square. I absolutely love the pop of red!

Channing and Jenna Dewan Tatum were my second favorite couple of the night. He wore a traditional black Dolce & Gabbana tux and she wore a beautiful, beautiful white, plunging neckline Zuhair Murad gown. Could they be the next Brangelina? #Chenna #Janning all the way!

|all images via Google Images|

Unfortunately, there are always those gowns who just didn't quite hit the mark and these fit into that category.

Gwyneth Paltrow's custom Ralph & Russo gown just fell centimeters short of making it onto the Best Dressed list. I love the color, the longsleeve one shoulder and the style of dress but that rosette is just not working.

Kiera Knigthley while a beauty herself keeps missing the boat on award season gowns. Her Chanel butterfly number for the GG was ill-fitting and tacky and this Valentino dress is equally as bad. I like everything about it except for the words and odd flower appliques.

What is Marion Cotillard wearing? Seriously what is that on her backside? Her Dior gown might be the worst of the night......

Finally, Nicole Kidman's Louis Vuitton gown wasn't quite there. I'm not digging the shiny texture or red band. Maybe next time.

That's my round up for who wore what Oscar's Edition! There were some seriously gorgeous gowns and some not so gorgeous gowns. Now we have to wait another year for the biggest night in Hollywood. Thankfully the Met Gala will be coming up soon we we'll get another dose of haute couture and ballgowns!

Who made the Best Dressed list and who didn't? Did you watch the actual awards show? Any of your favorites win? Thoughts on the overall night? Leave me a comment letting me know!

Coffee Table Books List

I've caught the decorating bug and it has no intention of going away anytime soon. I've taken to Pinterest to decorate it out and I have to say my little space is coming together quite nicely on there. Now if only everything you pinned magically appeared in your room. Wouldn't that be amazing?! Anyways, I've love the coffee table book trend and have been searching for the chicest books to display in my room and eventually living space. So here are my top coffee table book picks!
Beverly Hills// Book of Chic// Fifty Dresses// Dior Couture// Elements of Style// Mid-Century// World in Vogue// YSL Style// Chanel// Chanel Collections// Monsiuer Dior// Fashion Book//

I love fashion and most of the books I chose reflect that. There are bunches of coffee table books over a wide array of categories from photography to art, home and food and pretty much everything else in between! I love the way they look on tables, book shelves, desks, chairs, bar carts, etc. I think it's a great way to add color, inspiration and of course, display the beautiful books!

Photo from let it be beautiful
Pair them with some fresh flowers and you've got yourself a beautiful display!

Currently, I have the Kate Spade Things We Love book and it's one of my absolute favorites. I love the cover and spine and the beautiful pages inside! I've looked through the Place to Go People to See and it just didn't catch my eye like the other one did. If you have it, what are your thoughts?

Those are all my coffee table book picks to create the chicest coffee table, bookshelf, nightstand, or whatever other piece of furniture you're dressing up!

Do you have coffee table books? What are your faves? Recommend any? Leave a comment sharing! :)

Happy booking!

Travel Thursdays: Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort + Where To Eat & What To Do

Welcome back to this week's Travel Thursday! Last week's TT was my full recap of my trip out to California. Go check out that post for all the fun pictures of what I was up to! Today I'm sharing my review of the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort that we stayed in and a things to do in Carlsbad mini guide! My mom and I went out to Cali a couple of weeks ago for a 'business'/leisure trip. We split half our time doing 'business-y' things and the rest relaxing and exploring. This is my 4th time out to California and I absolutely love going to SoCal. Carlsbad is such a fun place to stay and explore! So let's get into the review! (It's photo heavy again but well worth the length!)

To Stay//

We stayed for two days at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort. This is hands down the nicest place I have ever stayed in for a vacation. It was a bit pricier than say going to a Best Western or hotel like that, but it's worth every single penny. Since we went in February it was their "off time" so rates were a lot lower than during their "summer season". Me and my mom decided to splurge and split the cost so it wasn't too bad.

Photo courtsey of Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort

We entered the lobby and were kinda in awe of how beautifully furnished and decorated it was. The dark wood and white spindles and accents paired perfectly together with the bright pops of orange. We were immediately greeted by the friendly receptionary staff. They were very accommodating in helping us find a room and explaining all the resort had to offer such as activities, places to eat, shop, etc. I don't think I ever met such a friendly hotel staff! They were fabulous! We got our room key and headed up to our room which was on the 3rd floor.

Like I said this was the nicest/fanciest place we've ever stayed at so we were kinda shocked at how nice everything was. Our room was spacious, very clean and very comfortable. We had a room with two queen beds and they might have been the comfiest hotel beds I've ever slept in. I slept like a rock.

Our room came with most everything that a hotel room comes with, phone, TV, iron, desk area, etc. We also had a mini kitchen area with a Keurig, microwave and mini fridge along with some other kitcheny things.

I loved the little 'towel' animals that the hotel staff created!

Photo courtsey of Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort

The bathroom was amazing. It had faux marble countertops and a shower and the most amazing selfie lighting ever. Our bathroom only had one sink and the rest was counterspace which was suuper convenient when both my mom and I were getting ready. Oh and the complimentary soaps were from Bath and Body Works and smelled like a tropical escape.

Me and my mom judge a hotel by how clean the bathrooms are. We've actually gone out and bought Clorox and paper towels to re-clean the bathroom in a few of the hotels we've stayed in. Yeah we're those people. These bathrooms were very clean and I was not worried at all about germs or cleanliness. A definite A+ in my book.

This was our view from our room. We had an ocean view room and it was the prettiest thing ever. The hotel also had a heated pool, hot tub, firepits, an 18+ hot tub and a big lawn area. They also offered beach bikes, boogie boards, beach umbrellas, a fitness center with sauna and so many more accommodations.

Photo courtsey of Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort

They also offer various different types of activities during the week. On Friday night they had a live band come and play. There was wine, beer, snacks and raffles. It was a lot of fun to sit and enjoy the music!

The best part of the CBINN was that they had access to the beach. It was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Suuuper convenient! The steps in the picture above lead right up to the hotel. We took a walk at sunset and it was the most gorgeous sight ever. I love beach sunsets, they're kinda the best.

 To Eat//

The Daily News Cafe has to be one of the best place we ate the whole trip. It was a breakfast/lunch restaurant that was right next door to our hotel. Talk about convenient! We ate there both mornings. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. The servings are huge and my mom and I split breakfast both times. Their biscuits were soooo good. I coulda eaten about 5 more!

We ate at Pizza Port for dinner one night, as we were craving a good pizza pie and it was within walking distance from our hotel. Boy did they deliver (no pun intended)! It was one of the best pizza's I've eaten. We had the Pizza Roma which had Canadian bacom, pepperoni, sausage, onions, black olives, bell peppers and mushrooms on a perfect crust. It was heavenly.

We also ate at Norte, a Mexican restaurant also right next to our hotel. It was per recommendation of the staff so we decided to try it out. Like I said in my recap post, it was the absolute worst Mexican food I've eaten. It was bland, the salsa was more like mild sauce from Taco Bell and the staff barely waited on us. I would not recommend going there.

A few other places we ate at that aren't in Carlsbad but are near it is The Habit Burger Grill and The Coffee Bean

The Habit has amazing sandwiches. I always get the Chicken Club and it never gets old! It could be that I get it once a year but hey who really knows.

The fritter was from Albertsons!

This was my first time going to The Coffee Bean but I've heard lots of things about it via social media. I got their dark chocolate latte and holy crap this was the second best latte ever. First being the carmel brulee latte from Starbucks. It was like dark hot chocolate on crack. It was the best thing ever. I'm really sad that I can't get one here.....

To Do//

The beach obviously! We went to the beach right outside our hotel which I think was the Carlsbad State beach.... but I'm not totally sure. It was a really nice beach, clean, not too populated and nice to walk around or catch some sun.

The hotel was on the main strip that ran through Carlsbad. This is the 'main' intersection through town. The Victorian style building is actually a really cool surf shop called Sun Diego. Right next to it had another little shopping area with restaurant and boutiques. One restaurant was a recommended Italian place called Gregario's. It's on the list to try next time! There was a lot of places that were in walking distance from our hotel. We didn't venture out too far but we saw lots of shops and buildings.

We went to the Carlsbad Premium Outlet mall and I could have easily spent all day (and all my money) there. It was filled with designer outlet stores like Barney's, Ralph, Coach, Michael Kors, etc. My personal favorite was the Kate Spade New York store. I died and went to Kate Spade heaven.

While we didn't have a lot of time to spend doing touristy activities here's a few that would be fun to check out!
SoCal Surf lessons
2 Stand Up Guys Paddle Board lessons
California Watersports
Sunset Sails Boat tours

Overall I would definitely, definitely, definitely recommend checking out and staying at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort. We had nothing but an excellent experience and we'll definitely be going back. Everything was of the highest quality from the rooms, to the service, even the complimentary coffee was good! Also check out the Daily News Cafe and Pizza Port for places to eat. And check out the Outlet Mall and the beaches and water activities for sure!

That's it my review and mini guide of where to stay, what to eat and what to do while in Carlsbad! It was such a great place to get away and have some vacay time. I love Carlsbad and will definitely be travelling there again!

Where do you vacation at? Where do you stay, go to eat and do while you're there? Leave me a comment sharing your recommendations! :)
