Things I'm Loving: January

I cannot believe January has already come and gone. I swear the months fly by! Anyone else feel like this or is it just me? January was a pretty good month for me, favorites wise. I have a little of this and a little of that. If you're already thinking, "Sam where are all your movies for the month?" I have an answer. I had a bunch of movies that I loved for January and decided to have them in their own post. That will be up within the next couple of days, so not to worry. Now on to my favorites!

No. 1: Just mascara//
I've been loving just wearing mascara as the only eye products this month. It's simple but still polished and very feminine. I've only worn mascara when I'm going out somewhere 'fancy'.

No. 2: Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser//
I've had this product for awhile and rediscovered it and OHMYGOSH how have I gone so long without it is beyond me. It's a 'primer' that visually reduces the size of your pores. I have larger pores on my cheeks, chin, between my eyebrows and nose and this product does wonders on making them appear smaller! I honestly do see a difference. If you're looking for something to help your pore size, try this out! And it's from the drugstore so it won't cost you an arm and a leg!

No. 3: Kids of 88//
I found this band while watching Teen Wolf. They're an electro-pop Australian duo and I'm obsessed with their music. Their sound is upbeat and makes you wanna get up and jam out. Listen for yourself here via Spotify.

No. 4: Lessons from Madame Chic//
This was the first book I've read in awhile and it has become my new lifestyle Bible. Everything mentioned in it was spot on to my life. I actually have a whole post/review about it where you can read my thoughts about it. Oh and see where the author, Jennifer Scott commented on my post. I still don't believe it happened.

No. 5: Alexi Murdoch//
Another artist I fell in love with while watching Teen Wolf. His music is very calm, mellow and folksy. It's the perfect music for a rainy day or a nice fall walk. His song Towards the Sun is one of my favorite 'slow' songs. It's so peaceful. You can listen to him here via Spotify.

No. 6: Frat Collection Mention//
I posted this photo

on my Instagram on the first day of Spring Classes last week and tagged Frat Collection in the photo. They saw this and regrammed it to their Insta and tweeted it out. I was so honored to be featured by them and may have fangirled a bit |read: a bunch| when I found it. It kinda made my month. Huge thank you to them! You guys are awesome!

No. 7: Heart & Arrow Design Instagram Class//
You don't follow Whitney Blake on Instagram you're seriously missing out. She's a blogger, business lady and brand designer who's kicking butt and taking names! I've been following her for a bit now and when she opened up her first ever class on how to create a beautiful and branded Insta I jumped at the chance to learn more! The class was super informative and I did learn a lot. Since then I've been working on taking the things she taught me and putting them into action. Check out my Insta to see!
Whitney is such a sweet person and makes you feel like you're best friends. I would love to meet with her one day and chat about all things Insta and bloggery.
She has seats available for her February 26th class! Read more about it here!
Check Whitney out on her Instagrampersonal blog, business Instagramwebsite and Etsy store

No. 8: Police Officer Shakin It Off//
I'm sure you've seen this video by now and if you haven't you're in for a treat! My favorite part is when someone is walking on the sidewalk and he slows down and waves then once he's passed them he breaks out in song and dance. I couldn't stop smiling and chuckling while watching it. It's the perfect thing if you're needing a pick me up or something to put a smile on your face.

Those are all my favorites for this month! A nice little spread dont'cha think? My movies of the month post will be coming along shortly so be on the look out for it!

What did you love for the month of January? Anything you didn't like? Leave me a comment letting me know! :)

Hats and Stripes + Where I've Been

I'm back, back again, tell a friend! I'm SO sorry for the hiatus/delay! But I have a really good excuse as to why I've been MIA! If you couldn't tell le blog got a major face lift and a new name! Yep 'she is little she is fierce' is now 'of life and style'! YAY! I've been working on changing my look for awhile now and have been putting it off. Finally I decided one night to undergo the transformation and here I am, at last! The process of getting everything set up and connected was way more difficult and time consuming, frustrating, delaying, etc., than anticipated. What I thought would be a day or two at the most being down ended up being 4 days. Thankfully a very good friend, who happens to be a tech genius, pretty much worked magic and got it all up and running. Seriously he's the best and my blog would not be here without him so thank you Bryce!! Now that I'm up and running whatcha think of the new look?!

Back to today's post is another fashion/outfit one! It's been warmer lately and I've been taking advantage of the sunny days. It's very spring weather and it's got me itching for actual spring! This shirt has been one I kinda forgot about but rediscovered and wondered why I stopped wearing it. It's super comfy, adds a casual yet chic element and is perfect for the warm days!

 |Thanks to Alex for taking my photos!|

Hat: Target// Sunglasses: TJ Maxx (similar)// Shirt: American Eagle old (similar herehere, and here)// Belt: Target (similar)// Jeggings: American Eagle// Flats: Target (similar)//

I've been wanting a floppy hat for ages now and they finally had them back in stock at Target. You bet I picked one up! I wanted a brown one since I thought black would blend too much into my hair but I actually love the way it looks! It's effortless, chic and a touch of boho. I love the way the outfit looks as a whole. I tried photos without the hat and it just didn't look right. I definitely think the hat adds to the outfit. I'm obsessed and can't wait to start styling it more!

What do you think of the floppy hat trend? Love it, loathe it? Leave me a comment letting me know!

Till next time!

Take Me Somewhere 75 and Sunny

I'm having a serious case of tropical wanderlust right now. With the exception of a couple of warm days, it's been cold and wintery, blaaaaaah. And after seeing some of my favorite bloggers in the tropics soaking up the sun and laying out on the beautiful beaches overlooking the turquoise waters I need a Caribbean escape ASAP! So to ease my need for palm trees and coconuts I've taken to the corners of the Internet to find a few beachy, vacation pieces that I need to have before I travel anywhere tropical.

Pink tank// Sandals// Floral dress// Striped espadrilles// Hat// Asymmetrical skort// Romper// Bangles// Lip pencil// Beach bag//

Whenever I think beach and vacation I think of white, bright colors like turquoise, blues, pinks and oranges, and  lots of rompers and dresses. The romper, sandals and beach bag I'm lusting over hardcore. I think they're the perfect day at the beach outfit. It's casual but a bit dressy and definitely very tropical. Oh man my need to hit the beach is growing as I type out this post. I think I hear the ocean calling my name.... Travel posts soon? ;)

Where have you been wanderlusting? Any suggestions on where I should go to fulfill my tropical need? Leave me a comment letting me know!

Happy wanderlusting!

DIY Sprinkle Cake Toppers

My grandma's birthday was earlier this month and it was my job to bring dessert. Since it was her birthday I decided on making a birthday cake but I wanted it to be different than just a plain old cake. I took to Pinterest to find something to spice it up and I came across confetti cake toppers. They looked easy enough and definitely added something special to the cake so I decided to create it. I had mostly everything needed, except for the confetti. After searching in Target, Walmart and Hobby Lobby with no luck, I was ready to give up. I had to go to Hy-Vee to get some groceries for my cake so I stopped off. I was in the baking section when it hit me, instead of confetti I'll use sprinkles! I bought my ingredients and drove home excited to create my toppers! So today I'm sharing with you my DIY sprinkle cake toppers! They're super easy and add a special touch to any cake!

What you'll need:

Shoebox lid// Parchment paper// Toothpicks// Sprinkles (I used the Wilton little circle ball multicolored ones)// Hot glue gun// Print out (not pictured)//

How to:

Step 1: Cut a sheet of parchment paper out and lay it in your shoebox lid. This will help the glue letters come off easier and the lid will catch any sprinkles.
Optional: Print out the word you're creating on paper if you're not too good at free handing.

Step 2: Draw your letter in hot glue and add your toothpick about half way up the letter.

Step 3: Retrace your letter in hot glue and add your sprinkles

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have all your letters sprinkled out.

Step 5: Let dry completely before sticking them into your cake.

And voila! You have your fun sprinkle cake toppers! It's that easy! Just make sure that your party goers know that they are not edible. That's one reason why I liked the sprinkles instead of confetti was that just in case any did fall off it would be okay to eat. You can spell whatever words you like! You could even do numbers if it was for a smaller cake. There are so many possibilities!

If you try out the sprinkle ones snap and send me a photo on Twitter and Instagram, @samantha_goble, so I can see your fun sprinkliness! :)

What did you think of my sprinkle cake toppers? How do you jazz up your birthday cakes? Leave me a comment letting me know!

Happy sprinkling everyone!

9 Ways to Turn That Frown Upside Down

Have you ever woken up on the wrong side of the bed? Or just are not in a good mood and everything is setting you off? I have these days many, many times. The other day I was having one of these "days". I was stressed from school and life, I was snapping at everyone, I was just not in a good mood. I went to my room for a bit to relax and get myself together. I laid down in bed, put on some of my favorite music and closed my eyes. Ten minutes passed and I felt much better. I went and apologized to those I snapped at, aka my mom. We all have those days where everything is going wrong. Whenever those days happen take some time and regroup yourself. I've compiled a list of 9 things to do when you're having a bad day to make it a good day!

No. 1: Just go//
Get out of the house or space. Drive to pick up a little Starbucks or a special treat. Go on a nice drive around your area. Just go and find a change of scenery.

No. 2: Make some tea//
A nice hot cuppa tea will do wonders for you! My favorite for relaxing is a cup of green tea with honey or the vanilla honey chammoille from Celestial.

No. 3: Take a (quick) shower//
If I'm feeling grumpy I'll hop into the shower for a bit. The steady stream of hot water and steam and yummy smelling soaps will instantly brighten my mood. I'll come out refreshed and ready to go again.

No. 4: Do something you love//
Spend some time doing something you love whether that's ready a couple of chapters in a book, painting or cooking up something real quick. Take a break and do something you love to reset your mind.

No. 5: Light a candle//
Candles scream relaxation to me. Light your favorite candle or one of the aromatherapy ones to help calm yourself and refocus. You can combine this with drinking your tea for maximum tranquility.

No. 6: Take a walk//
Put on your sneakers and hit the outdoors (weather permitting). Take a quick walk around your neighborhood or if you live close to a park. Getting outside to the fresh air, sun, sky, clouds and outdoor sounds can immediately reset your mood and the walking aka exercise will make you happier.

No. 7: Watch a funny video//
Hit up the Internet or Youtube for some laughter. Laughing will lighten your mood and make you smile and genuinely happy! One that I can't stop smiling at is this one

No. 8: Listen to some music//
Go to your room or a place where you're alone, lay down on your bed or sit in a comfy chair, put in your headphones, close your eyes and drown out the world and your troubles. You can do this while drinking tea too! Here's a couple playlists that help calm and soothe you: Totally Stress Free, Acoustic Morning, and Peaceful Indie Ambient.

No. 9: Do some yoga//
Clear some space and do some yoga, or stretching if you're not a yoga type. Stretching will help relax your muscles and the steady breathing will help create a calm. You can even meditate and focus on clearing your mind of the negativity and stress and focus on the positivity.

There you have it, my 9 ways to make a bad day a good one! The simplest things can really make a difference in changing your mood. Maybe that's taking a walk, getting a treat, or watching a video.

What are your favorite ways to turn your mood around? Leave me a comment sharing what you do below! :)

Lessons From Madame Chic

I can't even tell you the last time I picked up a book was... Wait no I can, it was the One Direction autobiography. #NoShame! Anyways, I use to read tooons in middle school. I actually won the award for the most pages read in my grade. I think I read like over 10,000 or some ridiculous number like that. Yeah I was a bit of a book worm. I always had books checked out from the library. In high school I still read but less so. I was far too busy with keeping up with my grades, extracurricular activities and social calender to sit down and read a book. Then when I graduated there was far better things to do than read. Now I still read. I love reading blogs, magazines and Internet articles and the occasional book. Lots of bloggers I follow read and have inspired me to read more this year. Today I'm sharing with you my thoughts on one of the chicest books I've read in a loooong time.

This book may or may not be my new lifestyle Bible. If you haven't read it you need to. Run to your nearest bookstore, computer to go to Amazon or the online library's website to get this book. It will change your life. I picture my life just like Famille Chic, the sophisticated, well decorated home, the well groomed family, the formal dinner affairs, the whole wearing an apron and lipstick while cleaning the house. They are pretty much living the life I want in a few years. Gah, they're perfect, this book is perfect, you need it STAT. Okay enough of me rambling and onto what I learned from Madame Chic.

|Note this is a pretty text heavy post but there's beautifully drawn pictures to make it a little better! :) |

No. 1: Don't deprive yourself of the luxuries of food.  Famille Chic had a three course meal every night of the week! A starter followed by the main entree, then dessert and or a cheese platter. They ate decadently but healthily too! It's okay to eat butter and cheese and bread and sweets, but all in moderation.

No. 2: Create an active challenge for yourself every day. This can be up to your interpretation. Maybe it's taking the stairs to work than the elevator, taking an evening walk to watch the sun set, or even doing a light workout in the mornings. Whatever movement it may be just make sure you get up and move!

No. 3: Have a 10 or 25 item wardrobe. How many of us have clothes upon clothes that we don't even wear? *raises her hand* I am guilty of this super badly. Clean out your closet and limit yourself to a 10 item wardrobe if you're feeling ambitious. If not try a 25 item wardrobe. Try it out for a month and see how you fair. Who knows you might surprise yourself.

No. 4:
Madame Chic had a defined style, very classic Frenchwoman. What is your style? Are you ladylike chic like Princess Kate? Or maybe edgy luxe? Define your style and find pieces that fit it. I would label mine as East Coast style with a West Coast flare. I primarily dress on the preppier/classier/conservative side but I do like to dress more edgy and laid back like they do on the West Coast.

No. 5: Le- no makeup. Madame Chic, like other Frenchwomen, wore little to no makeup. They had a flawless complexion that didn't need to be weighed down by heaps of makeup. When they did wear makeup it would be mascara, lipstick, a light foundation and blush. That's it. In this case less is always more. Show off your natural beauty, don't hid it with products! I actually have a post coming inspired by the le- no makeup look!

No. 6: Look presentable always. I follow this rule like it's going out of style. Always look presentable whenever you go out. It's the times that you don't that you run into someone you know like an ex-boyfriend, co-worker, etc. Even if you're going to the grocery store real quick put something on that's not made of sweatpant material and isn't lined with fur |read: sweatpants, hoodie and Uggs|.  "Dress like you're going to meet your worst enemy.

No. 7: Traveling in style. Remember the days where people got dressed up to travel? Yeah me either. There are plenty of comfortable and chic fashion options out there. Instead of sweats and  a hoodie throw on a pair of leggings and an oversized sweater. Or if you're feeling really daring a dress or skirt. Just because you're on a plane doesn't give you the excuse to look like a hot mess.

No. 8:
This applies to a wide array of areas; dishware, clothing, your home, manners, etc. Even if you're at home that doesn't mean you can't use nice things. Have those crystal dishes or beautiful China from your wedding? Use them! Famille Chic used their best for every meal. Decorate your home with quality furniture and decor. Using nice things will make everything feel more polished and a bit fancier.

No. 9: Live life as a formal affair. We live in an all too "lax" culture where anything goes. Meal times are sporadic, the TV is always on in the background, people are on their phones, the list goes on. "Living formally is about honoring traditions." This goes hand in hand with always use your best things. This doesn't mean a black tie dress code and 5 course dinner but have set meal times, use proper etiquette, dress appropriately.
This can also apply to your home decor, wardrobe, mealtimes, manners, etc.

No. 10:
I love technology, I really do. But I also think many of the arts of conversation and letter writing have been lost. Let's bring this back! Instead of sending a text or email to a friend write them a little note. It will brighten their day when they see that you took the time to write and send something thoughtful. Who doesn't love getting fun mail?

No. 11: Clutter is so not chic. How many of us have clutter? Closets packed top to bottom, drawers stuffed to the brim, papers, magazines, bills, purse, keys, etc., on the kitchen table? I think we're all guilty of this. De-clutter your house; throw out the trash, donate any useable items and organize the rest. Invest in organizational pieces to help manage everyday clutter like your keys, purse, phones, etc.

No. 12: Seek out the Arts. Like letter writing and conversation, going to museums, the ballet, opera and other fine arts have been lost. If you live in a large city take advantage of the cultural activities like the symphony, ballet, theater, opera, art galleries, museums, etc. Join a book club. Put on a play in your living room. Make a night of it and invite your friends! Every city has something to do. Go out and explore it!

No. 13: Cultivate an air of mystery. In today's day and age there is no mystery to a person. Everything about them can be found in a single click on the computer. Whatever happened to meeting an enchanting stranger and knowing nothing about him. What did he do? Was he a spy? A wealthy business man? A prince? Leave some mystery about yourself up to the imagination, both in personality and in fashion.
This also goes for relationships as well. Whenever you first go out with someone you don't flaunt your dirty laundry to them. So why should you when you are together? Your sigificant other doesn't need to know about your shaving/waxing, plucking, tweezing, etc. There are some things that your other should know but knowing that beans gives you gas is not.

No. 14:

I absolutely love the idea of entertaining and dinner parties. I can not wait till I get my own place to host such affairs. It's another lost art. I hope to bring it back! Madame Chic always hosted a variety of social gatherings at her home. She was confident in her planning, cooking, entertaining, music choice, decor and her outfit. Even if something went wrong she wouldn't let anyone know. Confidence is easier said than done but try to remain calm, cool and collected. Your guests want you to succeed and nothing is worse than being at a gathering where the hostess is a hot mess.

No. 15: Make a list and stick with it. I'm definitely guilty of this. I'll run to the store for body wash and come back with a new sweater, lipstick, bath towels, dinnerware, candles and a new necklace but not what I actually went in there for. Target seems to be the prime culprit of this and it happens not just to me but other women. Make a list of what you need/ need to get done and focus on those things only. It may be hard but you'll be much more productive and your wallet will thank you.

No. 16: The daily chores. We all have those things that we do daily that just make us groan at the thought of having to do them again. Their our thorn in our sides. Instead of thinking about them negatively find a positive to them. Maybe folding laundry is just your kryptonite. Start the laundry in the evening. In the morning, before everyone is up fold it and put what you can away. Relish the experience of being by yourself, not having to tend to your kids, husband, pets, etc. Sure you're folding towels and pants but maybe the sun is streaming through the windows and you're sipping on your morning coffee. It's the simple things in life.

No. 17: Value quality above all. Quality items can be said for anything, food, clothing, decor, even time. Purchase things of high quality that will last you. Instead of buying multiple pairs of cheap jeans invest in a nice quality pair that fit you and accentuate your body. Spend quality time with your spouse, children, family and friends. Give all your attention and savor the memories. Don't be on your phone the whole time. Be in the present.  Remember, it's quality not quantity.

No. 18:

We are only given one life and our goal should be to live it passionately, richly and so fully that if anyone were to hear about it they would not believe you. "Every detail of life can become exceptional if you allow it to be so. You hold the key.... Allow yourself to be moved on a daily basis. Every day when you step out of bed, you have the choice either to go through the motions and merely exist or to go about with passion, to always be present in your own life, to take something from every situation- whether good or bad." I absolutely love this quote. How true is it. What we make of our day and our life is completely up to us. "You choose happiness."

|All images from Pinterest|

That is what I learned from Madame Chic. This book is chalk full of things that need to be brought back to society. Dressing nice, using manners, hosting dinner parties, enjoying the fine arts. Things that have been lost due to technology and the society we live in. If you're looking for a fun read I highly encourage reading this one!

What have you been reading lately? Leave me a comment sharing what books you've been reading or what books I need to read! I could always expand my library! :)

Happy reading!

Leopard Is a Neutral

So I tried shooting this outfit the other day and it was windier than all get out. Like tornado force winds. It was not conducive to photographing an outfit of the day. After spending like a half an hour outside and getting nowhere I decided to try again the next day. Thankfully it was sunny, warm and not very windy at all! Yay for good weather!!  I love that it's a pretty neutral outfit but the leopard and bright chambray spice it up! Onto the outfit!

Chambray shirt: Old Navy (similar here)// Jeggings: American Eagle// Belt: Target (old)// Loafers: Target (similar here)//

I love how it's simple and casual yet still put together and chic. I looove mixing light tops with darker pants to give a nice contrast. And the leopard loafers are a must. I've worn this a couple of times already, since it's been so nice out and I don't have to wear layers upon layers of clothing. It's a nice mix between the still cool, but warmer temperatures.

Love my outfit? Loathe it? What have you been wearing lately? Leave me a comment letting me know! :)

Insta Crushes

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with Instagram. I check it religiously throughout the day. I love seeing snapshots and snippets of people's lives, their on point outfits or just their pretty desk du jour. I check it in the morning when I wake up and it gets me going for my day. I take inspiration daily from my feed filled with pretty images. It's one of my favorite mediums to find inspiration from. I follow different people with different styles and it's nice to see variety when I'm scrolling instead of the same coffee in bed shot. (I love those and have a couple on my feed so I'm not bashing. Lol) Today I thought I'd share with you my favorite Instagram accounts and ones that I look to for inspiration! So let's jump right in!

Mckenna's is the epitome of girlyness, pink and bright, fun photos. I can't get enough of her Insta or her blog. They're pretty awesome. Check out her blog for details about the photos!

No. 10: Meghan // @meghanrienks

Meghan's Instagram looks like something straight out of tumblr. I absolutely adore the minimalism, black and whites and interesting angles of photos. Her Insta is so pretty to look at and she is too!

There you have it! My favorite Instagrammers! Definitely check all of them out if your feed needs an update! I love how they all offer something different in terms of style, aesthetic, look, etc., but are all fairly similar, ie: white, bright colors, classy, etc. Hopefully I can get my Instagram looking half as good as theirs! I took a class by the lovely Whitney the other night all about Instagramming so it's time to take what I learned and put it to use!

Do you Instagram? Who are your favorite Instagrammers? Send me your Instagram and tell me your faves in the comments below! If you want to see fun photos of my life and how I'm trying to achieve the Insta goals of the forementioned than follow me, @samantha_goble!

Happy Instagramming everyone!
